Harrow’s parking: cheapest if you apply early

Harrow prices a bay suspension differently from Barnet and Brent, and the difference is worth knowing before you fix a completion date. The bay fee is set by area: £37 per bay per day in Central zones (the town centre and the stations), £23 in District zones and £11.50 in Local zones, most of the residential streets. On top of that sits an admin fee that depends only on how early you apply: £60 with more than 10 working days notice, £120 at 3 to 10 days, and £178 under 3 days, at the time of writing. The application is a form emailed to the council’s suspensions team and can take up to ten working days to process, so a Local-zone bay booked early costs £71.50 for the day, while the same bay booked in the last week costs £189.50. Where a single yellow line in a CPZ will do, a dispensation with removals listed as a reason runs £8.50 to £39 a day by area.

The controlled zones sit round Harrow on the Hill and Harrow and Wealdstone stations, across the town centre, and around North Harrow, South Harrow and Rayners Lane stations, with a lookup on the council site. Three kinds of Harrow house

The Hill. Georgian and Victorian houses on the streets round St Mary’s and Harrow School, with narrow roads, steps up from the pavement, and no room to turn a long van. Metroland. Everywhere else in HA2 and HA3 is the same 1930s semi Harrow was built on: Alexandra Avenue, Northolt Road, Pinner Road and the streets off them, three bedrooms, a drive, a garage and a full loft. These are our bread and butter, three movers and two Lutons or one lorry, typically one day, with beds and wardrobes dismantled and rebuilt.

The town centre. New flats and towers around St Ann’s, St George’s and Station Road, with lifts, loading bays and a concierge. We book the lift and the bay with the building before the day and time the load around the lift slot.

Harrow Recycling Centre is on Forward Drive, Wealdstone HA3 8NT, open daily 8.30am to 4.30pm. Residents book free for a car with photo ID.
