What a man and van costs in North London
The table on this page is priced by the hour, with a two-hour minimum, because that is how a man and van job is actually used: a sofa across Wembley, a student’s room from Kingsbury to a hall of residence, a wardrobe collected from a seller in Finchley. One man is from £69 an hour, two men from £80. A half day with two men, which is what a one-bed flat move usually needs, is from £320.
Where the hours go: the drive between the two addresses, the stairs at each end, and how much of it is boxed and ready when the van arrives. A loaded ground-floor flat with a van outside the door is a different job from a third-floor walk-up with parking round the corner, so the quote follows a quick description of both ends.
What a man and van is for
- Single items. A sofa, a fridge freezer, a piano stool, a bed frame, a bike or a set of garden furniture from one address to another.
- Studio and one-bed flat moves. Everything a small flat holds usually fits in one van load with two men.
- Collections and deliveries. Furniture bought from a shop, an auction house, a private seller or a storage unit, collected and delivered on the same booking.
- Student and house-share moves. One room, boxed up, to or from a shared house or halls, at the start and end of each term.
- Loft, garage and shed runs. Old furniture out to storage, or what is not going with you to a house clearance and waste removal job.
Man and van or a full removal?
A man and van is charged by the hour, sends one or two people, and suits a job you can describe in a sentence. A full house removal is priced for the whole move after a survey, sends a crew of two or more with the vans to match, and includes dismantling, blanket-wrapping and placing everything in the right room. Rule of thumb: a studio or one-bed flat is a man and van job, from £320 for a half day with two men. A two-bed or bigger is a removal, from £699, because the hours would add up past that anyway. Not sure which yours is? Tell us what is going and we will say.
How it works
- Tell us the job. Both addresses, what is going, which floor at each end and whether there is a lift. A photo of the room or the item is the fastest way.
- Price. We confirm one man or two, how many hours it should take, and the starting figure from the table, in writing.
- Book. Pick a day and a start time. We work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm.
- On the day. The van arrives at the time agreed. Our team loads, drives, unloads and puts things where you want them. Anything that has to come apart to get through a door goes back together at the other end.
- Done. You pay for the hours booked. If it runs over because the lift was out or the seller was late, we tell you before we carry on.
Parking for a man and van job
A van fits a normal parking bay, which makes parking cheaper than for a removals lorry. In the London Borough of Barnet a dispensation for one named vehicle on a yellow line is £51.90 per day with 2 working days notice, and is the cheap route compared with a suspended bay. In Brent a dispensation is £38 for a single yellow line or £73 for a double, for up to four hours, with the council asking for 7 working days ahead. Those are the fees at the time of writing; councils change them every April. Most side streets outside the zones round the stations are free to stop on, and for a two-hour job a driveway or a loading bay is usually enough.
A typical job
A one-bed flat above a shop on Kingsbury Road moving to a ground-floor flat in Wembley Central. Two men, booked as a half day. Boxes and bags were packed the night before, the bed frame came apart in ten minutes, the sofa and a two-door wardrobe were the only awkward carries down the stairs. Loaded in ninety minutes, a fifteen-minute drive, unloaded and the bed back together in under an hour. Finished inside the four hours, from £320.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
-
How much does a man and van cost in North London?
From £69 an hour for one man and a van, or £80 an hour for two men, with a two-hour minimum. A half day of four hours is from £249 with one man or £320 with two, and a full day with two men is from £599. Distance and stairs decide how many hours you need.
-
Is there a minimum booking?
Two hours. That covers most single-item jobs and small collections inside North London. A studio or one-bed flat move usually takes a half day, and we quote it as a half day rather than watching the clock.
-
Do I need one man or two?
One man is fine when you are loading alongside him and nothing is heavier than one person can carry. Anything with a sofa, a fridge, a washing machine or a flight of stairs is a two-man job, and it is quicker, so it often costs about the same.
-
What size van do you send?
Our own branded vans. A typical man and van job goes in a long-wheelbase panel van or a Luton, and a one-bed flat usually fits in one load. Tell us what is going and we send the right one.
-
Can you collect furniture from a shop or a seller?
Yes. Collections from shops, auction houses, storage units and private sellers across North London and central London are the most common two-hour booking we take. Send us the collection address and the seller's collection window.
-
How far in advance should I book a man and van?
A few days is usually enough for a weekday; weekends go first. If your street is in a controlled parking zone we can apply for a dispensation, which needs 2 working days in Barnet and up to 7 in Brent.
-
Are you insured?
Yes, fully insured, and every job is done by our own professionally trained team rather than a driver found through an app.
