What kind of homes do you move in Finchley?

Finchley’s housing sets up each move differently, so we look at the house before we quote.

• Edwardian terraces and 1930s semis between Ballards Lane and the High Road. Most of Finchley. The terraces have narrow hallways and a tight turn at the top of the stairs, so wardrobes and bed frames come apart before they move. • Flats over shops and new blocks on the High Road. The flats above the parades round Tally Ho Corner are usually walk-ups with a controlled street outside. The new blocks have lifts and managed access, so we book the lift and any loading bay with the building’s management before the day.

Do you need a parking permit for a removal van in Finchley?

All of Finchley is the London Borough of Barnet, apart from the Fortis Green edge of N2, which is Haringey. Barnet’s controlled parking zones cluster round Finchley Central, East Finchley and West Finchley stations and along the High Road, while the side roads on the Woodside Park side are mostly free. You can check any road on the council’s CPZ map.

If there are marked bays or yellow lines outside your door, Barnet offers two things:

• A parking bay suspension, with “removals” a listed reason, costs £69.63 per bay (5 m) per day plus a £171.39 non-refundable admin fee, and needs at least seven calendar days notice.
• A parking dispensation lets one named vehicle stand on a yellow line for the day, with “moving home” the council’s own example. It costs £51.90 per vehicle per day and needs two working days notice.

Both are applied for through MiPermit. For a single van that fits a bay, the dispensation is the cheaper route by some distance and the one we usually recommend. These are the council’s 2026/27 fees at the time of writing and they change every April, so check the suspensions and dispensations page before you pay. What does a typical Finchley move look like?

Three shapes of job that come up most often in N3, N12 and N2:

A one-bed flat over a shop on the High Road, North Finchley. A controlled street, so the dispensation is booked two working days ahead rather than a full suspension, which saves the £171.39 admin fee. Typically two movers and one Luton van, and a one-bed flat is usually a morning’s work. From £449.

A three-bed Edwardian terrace off Ballards Lane. A typical crew is three movers and two Lutons. Beds and wardrobes come apart upstairs, sofas are covered and the stairs protected. If you want the kitchen and the fragile things packed the day before, full packing for a three-bed is from £399, and the move itself is from £999.

A two-bed flat in West Finchley going into storage. Completion dates that do not line up are normal in a chain. We load the flat, hold everything in storage and deliver when your keys are ready. Storage is from £20 + VAT a week per container.

Clearing what you are not taking

If there is furniture you do not want at the new address, we can clear it on the same visit. A single room, garage or loft is from £149 and a whole three-bed house from £749. We are a registered waste carrier (CBDL469340) and take what we clear to a licensed transfer station.
