Three ways to use us

Packing is the part of a move that takes longest and gets left latest, and it is where most breakages happen. Sal Removals offers it three ways, and you can pick one or mix them. Most moves end up as a mix: materials delivered early for the things you can pack over a fortnight, and the team in for the kitchen and the fragiles the day before.

Full packing. Our own team packs the whole home, room by room, the day before the move. Every box is labelled with its room and contents, fragile boxes are marked, and the wardrobes are packed last. On move day the same team loads what they packed, which is why it goes faster.

Fragiles and kitchen only. You pack the books, clothes and bedding yourself and leave us the glassware, crockery, pictures, lamps and electronics. This is the option most people choose, because it is the kitchen that takes a whole weekend and the kitchen that breaks.

Materials only. You pack, we supply. Boxes, bubble wrap, tape and labels come as packs, priced per pack from £49 for a starter pack, and are delivered to your door at a time that suits you. If you are not sure what you need, tell us the property size and we will say how many packs, and we will drop off more if you run short.

What is in the packs

Double-walled cardboard boxes in several sizes, so that books go in small boxes and bedding in large ones and nobody has to lift a big box of books. Bubble wrap for glass, china and screens. Packing tape. Labels for room and contents. Wardrobe boxes on request.

Specialist materials for pianos, framed art, mirrors and glass table tops are arranged per job. Ask at the survey and the item is quoted separately.

Materials are priced per pack rather than per box, so the quote is one line and there is no counting boxes at the door. The survey sizes it against the rooms, wardrobes and bookcases, and if you run short mid-week a top-up pack is dropped off the same way as the first one.

How it works

1. Survey. Call 020 3475 0377 or send the form. For a full pack we survey the property, in person for anything over a one-bed, and count rooms, wardrobes, bookcases and fragiles.
2. Quote. You get a fixed written price for the packing, or a materials list with a pack price, alongside the removal quote if you are moving with us.
3. Materials delivered. Packs arrive flat at a time you choose, usually a week or two before the move so you can start early.
4. Packing day. For a full pack, the team arrives the day before the move, works room by room, labels every box and leaves the kitchen essentials out until last.
5. Move day. The same team loads the van, unloads at the new address and puts each box in the room on its label.
6. Unpack. On request we unpack, put things where you want them, and take every box and every scrap of packaging away with us.

A typical job

A two-bed flat in a new-build block at Wembley Park, moving to a house in Harrow. The building needed a lift booking and a loading-bay slot, so the move had a fixed four-hour window and the owners did not want to spend it taping boxes. Two packers came on the Thursday and packed the flat in a morning: the kitchen and glassware first, the books into small boxes, the wardrobes last. Friday morning the same two loaded within the slot, and the flat was empty before the bay booking ran out. At the house the boxes went to the rooms on their labels, the kitchen boxes were unpacked, and the packaging left with the van.
