Waste removal in North London

Rubbish removal in North London costs from £69 for a single item and from £329 for a full van load of about 12 cubic yards. Sal Removals collects the same day where a van is free, does the loading for you, and sorts the load for recycling before licensed disposal as a registered waste carrier. No minimum load.

What we collect

Sal Removals collects rubbish and bulky waste from homes, flats, offices, shops and building sites across North London and north-west London, working from our base in Kingsbury, NW9. The team does the carrying, so the pile can be in the garden, the loft or a fourth-floor flat with no lift.

  • Bulky items. Sofas, armchairs, mattresses, bed frames, wardrobes, tables, carpets and rolled underlay.
  • White goods and electricals. Fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers, televisions, monitors and computers, which are separated for recycling.
  • Household and garden waste. Bags of general rubbish, garage and shed contents, fence panels, cut branches and old garden furniture.
  • Construction and renovation waste. Plasterboard, timber, old kitchen units, bathroom suites, tiles, rubble and packaging from a refit.
  • Office and shop clearance. Desks, chairs, filing cabinets, IT equipment and shop-fit waste, priced by the same load bands. Our guide to the types of office waste covers what can and cannot be recycled.

The only things we do not carry are paint and flammable liquids or gases. Say what is in the pile when you call and we will tell you straight away if anything needs a specialist.

How the load prices work

The table prices by how much of a van you fill, measured in cubic yards. A single item is one sofa, one mattress, one fridge or the equivalent. A quarter load is a small room’s worth of bags and boxes. A half load is a typical kitchen refit or a garage clear-out. A full load, about 12 cubic yards, is a large room of furniture or the waste from a whole flat. Where a job is heavier than it is big, such as rubble, soil or a load of tiles, the price is quoted after a look, because the van has a weight limit before it has a volume limit.

What happens to your rubbish

Every load is sorted before it is tipped. Furniture and goods in usable condition are set aside for reuse. Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are separated for recycling. What is left goes to a licensed transfer station, carried by Sal Removals as an upper tier registered waste carrier, number CBDU469343.

This matters more than it sounds. A householder has a duty of care for their own waste, and if a cheap collector fly-tips it in a lay-by on the A41 the trace leads back to the address it came from. Using a registered carrier is how you discharge that duty. Ask any firm you are comparing whether they are registered, and be wary of one that quotes far below the table above.

Taking it to a recycling centre yourself

For a car boot of bags, the council centre is free and worth the trip. For anything that needs a van, the rules are stricter than most people expect, so check before you set off.

  • Barnet: Summers Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre, Porters Lane, Summers Lane, North Finchley N12 0RF. Open daily 9am to 4pm, gates closed at 3.45pm. Vans must be booked 24 hours ahead with proof of residency at vanbookings.co.uk, six van visits a year, and no trade waste at all.
  • Haringey: Western Road, Wood Green N22 6UG. Check Haringey’s own page for current hours and van rules before going.
  • Brent: Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, Park Royal NW10 7TJ. Open Monday and Thursday to Sunday, 8am to 4pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Cars need no booking, but a van counts as trade and has to be registered with West London Waste first.

None of these will take waste from a business or from a hired van without the right registration, and all of them expect you to unload it yourself. If that is more than a Saturday morning’s work, the table above is the alternative.

How it works

  1. Describe the load. Call 020 3475 0377 or send the form, and tell us what is there and where it is: garden, loft, stairs, lift or no lift.
  2. Price by load. You get a price against the bands above. For anything heavy or unusual we come and look first, free.
  3. Book a slot. Same day when a van is free, or a morning or afternoon slot on a day that suits you, Monday to Sunday.
  4. We load it. Our own team in our own branded vans does the carrying, dismantles anything that will not go through the door, and sweeps up.
  5. Sort and dispose. The load is sorted for reuse and recycling, and the rest goes to a licensed transfer station.

A typical job

A kitchen refit in North Finchley, N12, a few streets from Summers Lane. The fitter had stacked the old units, worktops, a dishwasher and the packaging from the new kitchen in the front garden, and the homeowner did not fancy the van booking, the six-visit limit or three trips in a hatchback. Photos sent on the Wednesday, half-load price agreed by phone, collected on the Thursday afternoon in one visit. The dishwasher went for electrical recycling, the timber and cardboard were separated, and the laminate and rubble went to the transfer station.

The same pattern covers a sofa collection in Wembley, an office clear-out in Barnet or a garden clearance in Harrow: describe it, price it, gone.

Emptying a whole property is house clearance, which includes the disposal described here. An office move usually leaves old furniture behind, and we clear it in the same booking. For moving things rather than getting rid of them, see man and van. Local pages: removals in Barnet and removals in Kingsbury.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does rubbish removal cost in North London?

From £69 for a single item or about one cubic yard, from £109 for a quarter load, from £179 for a half load and from £329 for a full van load of about 12 cubic yards. The price covers labour, loading and disposal. Heavy materials such as rubble and soil are quoted after a look, because weight matters as much as volume.

  • What types of waste do you collect?

Household rubbish, bulky furniture, sofas and mattresses, white goods and electricals, garden waste, construction and renovation waste, and office clearance waste. The only restrictions are paint and flammable liquids or gases, which we do not carry. Hazardous materials need a specialist contractor, and we will say so when you describe the load.

  • Is there a minimum amount of waste you will collect?

No. A single bag of rubbish or one sofa is a job, and there is no maximum either. A full house of renovation waste is collected over as many van loads as it takes, and the load prices above scale with it.

  • Do you offer same-day rubbish removal?

Yes. Same-day collection is available across North London when a van is free, and we work Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm. Call 020 3475 0377 in the morning and a single item or a quarter load can usually be gone by the afternoon.

  • Are you a registered waste carrier?

Yes. Sal Removals is an upper tier registered waste carrier and dealer (CBDU469343) and fully insured. Waste is taken to a licensed transfer station, sorted for recycling on the way, and never fly-tipped. That protects you as well as us, because a householder stays responsible for where their rubbish ends up.

  • Do you collect from businesses as well as homes?

Yes. We collect from houses, flats, shops, offices, building sites and landlords' properties across North London and neighbouring areas. Office clearances, old desks and chairs, and shop-fit waste are priced by the same load bands as household rubbish.

  • How do I book a rubbish removal in North London?

Call 020 3475 0377 or send the quote form with a description of what needs collecting. You get a price by load, choose a date and a morning or afternoon slot, and the team does the loading.
