Removals across south and west Hertfordshire
Sal Removals moves homes and offices across south and west Hertfordshire from our base at 19 Uphill Drive, London NW9 0BU, in Kingsbury. The A41, the A5 and the M1 all run north from here into Hertfordshire, so Bushey, Borehamwood, Elstree and Radlett are on our doorstep, and Watford, St Albans, Rickmansworth and Hemel Hempstead are a straight run up the motorway. We move people from London into the county, out of it into London, and between Hertfordshire towns. Watford has its own page, with the Watford parking rules in full.
We do house and flat removals, office removals, man and van jobs, packing, storage and house clearance, with our own professionally trained team and our own branded vans.
Who handles parking for a removal van in Hertfordshire?
Hertfordshire has two tiers of council, and that trips people up. Hertfordshire County Council runs the roads, the recycling centres and the ePass, but parking belongs to each district or borough council, and each one sets its own fees and notice. At the time of writing (September 2026):
- Hertsmere (Borehamwood, Elstree, Radlett, Bushey, Potters Bar): a commercial dispensation is £20 a day or £40 a week with 48 working hours notice. Bay suspensions are priced on application.
- Three Rivers (Rickmansworth, Croxley Green, Chorleywood, Abbots Langley): a suspension or dispensation is £35.50 per bay per day with 10 days notice, and “to move house” is a listed reason.
- Watford: a dispensation for removals is £25 per vehicle per day with 3 working days to process, and we recommend it over a bay suspension, which needs 10 working days. Details on our Watford page.
- St Albans and Dacorum (St Albans, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted): both offer suspensions for home removals. We confirm the current fee and notice with the council for your street before we quote.
Controlled zones sit round the town centres and every mainline station. Out on the estates and in the villages they are rare, and a house with a drive usually needs no permit at all.
The towns we move in, and what each move looks like
Hertfordshire is not one kind of move. The housing changes from town to town, and that sets the crew, the vans and the parking.
Bushey, Croxley Green and Rickmansworth. Mostly 1930s semis with drives. A three-bed here is typically three movers and two Lutons, loaded off the drive with no permit. Streets near Rickmansworth station are the exception.
Radlett, Chorleywood and Moor Park. Large detached houses on big plots, some behind gates. We check gate codes, driveway turning room and whether a 7.5 tonne lorry can get in at the survey, because a four-bed move here is typically three to four movers with a lorry and a Luton.
Borehamwood and Elstree. 1950s terraces and newer flats around Shenley Road. Flats mean stairs or a lift booking, and a dispensation from Hertsmere for the van if the road is controlled.
St Albans and Harpenden. Victorian terraces and Edwardian villas near St Peter’s Street and the cathedral, with narrow frontages and on-street parking. Parking is the first thing we sort here, and a two-bed terrace usually fits in one Luton.
Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted. New Town cul-de-sacs off the Marlowes side, where the van may have to park short of the door, and a Victorian Old Town with tighter streets.
Potters Bar. Semis and flats round Darkes Lane, close to the M25 and a short run from our Barnet and Edgware work.
Office removals in Hertfordshire
Whether the office is in Watford, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead or Borehamwood, or is moving between Hertfordshire and London, we move offices in the evening or over a weekend so the business loses no trading day. We label every desk and crate, disconnect and reconnect workstations, monitors, printers and comms, and test it all before we leave. Old desks and chairs we do not move are cleared as a separate job under our registered waste carrier number, CBDL469340.
Prices start from £240 for up to 10 desks, £2,300 for 10 to 30 and £4,700 for 30 to 60. Larger or multi-floor offices get a survey first. Allow four to six weeks: managed buildings want goods lift bookings well ahead, and a suspension on a controlled street adds its own notice. Our guide to planning an office move covers the timeline.

Checkatrade member. Fully insured. The people who survey your house are our own team, and they are the people who move it.
Recycling in Hertfordshire before you move
Hertfordshire residents can use the county’s recycling centres with a free ePass and proof of address, including Elstree (Allum Lane, WD6 3NN), Rickmansworth (Riverside Drive, WD3 1FS), St Albans (Ronsons Way, AL4 9XR), Hemel Hempstead (Eastman Way, HP2 7DU) and Potters Bar (Cranborne Road, EN6 3JE). They close on Tuesday and Wednesday, except Potters Bar, which closes on Thursday and Friday. Vans need the separate van and trailer ePass, and no business waste is accepted, so anything we clear goes to a licensed transfer station.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
-
How much do removals in Hertfordshire cost?
From £449 for a one-bed flat, £699 for a two-bed and £999 for a three-bed house, removals only, no packing. A four-bed house starts from £1,399. Moves between London and Hertfordshire are priced the same way, after a free survey, so treat these figures as starting points rather than a quote.
-
How much do office removals in Hertfordshire cost?
From £240 for an office of up to 10 desks, £2,300 for 10 to 30 desks and £4,700 for 30 to 60. Multi-floor offices and anything over 60 desks need a survey. We move in the evening or over a weekend, and disconnect, transport and reconnect the IT so the office opens as normal.
-
Who do I apply to for a removals parking permit in Hertfordshire?
The district or borough council, not Hertfordshire County Council. Watford, Hertsmere, Three Rivers, St Albans and Dacorum each run their own suspensions and dispensations with different fees and notice periods. We find out which council covers your street and apply on your behalf as part of the quote.
-
Which parts of Hertfordshire do you cover?
South and west Hertfordshire: Watford, Bushey, Borehamwood, Elstree, Radlett, Potters Bar, Rickmansworth, Croxley Green, Chorleywood, Abbots Langley, St Albans, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted, plus moves between any of these towns and London, in either direction.
-
Can I take rubbish to a Hertfordshire tip in a van?
Only as a Hertfordshire resident with the county's van and trailer ePass, which allows 12 visits in 12 months and no business waste. That means a removals firm cannot use the tips for you. Anything we clear goes to a licensed transfer station under our waste carrier registration, CBDL469340.
-
How far ahead should I book a move in Hertfordshire?
Two to three weeks is comfortable for a house, four to six for an office. Three Rivers wants 10 days notice for a suspension and Watford 10 working days, so on a controlled street the parking, not the van, sets the earliest date you can move.
